Stars Classification Questions

Rigel and Betelgeuse are two stars from the constellation of Orion. Rigel is a blue dwarf and (Print Only Resource)
Betelgeuse is a red giant.

1. Mark these two stars on the Hertspring-Russell Diagram.

2. Where would our Sun be on the diagram? Mark this also.

3. Explain what is meant by main sequence.

4. Stars can change their position on the diagram. Explain this in terms of their age, brightness,
hotness and size.

5. On the diagram indicate with an arrow what happens:
a) To a blue star when it gets older.
b) To our Sun as it gets older.

6. Indicate on the diagram the colour that the stars would probably be in each part of the diagram.
