Physics Distance vs Time Graph Activity

Either in the classroom or outside mark a starting point, and then time two students. One
student should firstly be walking and then another student should run.

Record the distance and time results below:

Student 1

Time (s)Distance Walking (m)Distance Running

Graph the results

Student 2

Time (s)Distance Walking (m)Distance Running

Graph the result on the same graph.

NB. Time is on the x axis.

Answer the following questions:

1. Explain what the slope tells us about the motion of the person.

2. Compare the different slopes obtained from the two graphs.

3. What was the average speed of the walker?

Write a conclusion which discusses the motion of the walker and the runner.
