Heat Energy Experiment

AIM:
To determine whether water cools faster than oil.

METHOD:
Heat equal amounts of water and oil in two different beakers to a temperature of 80°C.

Remove the beakers from the heat and immediately start timing the temperature drop. Record the temperatures of both liquids over a 10 minute period at 1 minute intervals.

Graph of Temperature vs Time

Draw two line graphs in different coloured pens for each liquid

    CONCLUSION:
Write a conclusion for this experiment.

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Which liquid cooled the slowest? Explain why you think this is the case, by referring to the
    graph.

    2. What was the temperature difference between the two liquids at the end of the experiment?

    3. Explain in your own words why the oil and water cool at different rates.
